Reasons to Become a Safari Camper

It may still be chilly out, but we at the Virginia Zoo are gearing up for another fabulous year of Safari Camp! Explore mythical monsters, crack zoo mysteries, become a zookeeper in training, or help tackle real-world conservation issues: we have a Zoo-venture for just about anyone! Each day of Safari Camp is packed with laughs, learning, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences.

Why should your child attend Safari Camp at the Virginia Zoo? If one reason isn’t enough, here are TEN reasons your child should be a Safari Camper this year!

  1. Behind the Scenes Experiences

Each day, campers go where the average zoo guest has never gone before: behind the scenes with our animals! Mingle with moon bears, hang with a sloth, romp with rhinos, or take it easy with a 92-year-old tortoise.

  1. Animal Encounters

Get an up-close look at creepy crawlies, rad reptiles, and amazing amphibians. Your camper will meet many of our superstar animal ambassadors right in their classroom!

  1. Exercise

Our Safari Campers are always on the move! We spend as much of the day outdoors as we can (weather permitting). Between Zoo hikes and high-energy games, we make sure your campers aren’t wild when they return home!

  1. Hikes

Have you always wanted to know our animals’ names or their favorite treats? Your camper will have a personalized Zoo tour each day at camp!

  1. Snacks

Who’s hungry? Every day, campers take breaks and munch on yummy snacks provided by the Zoo. The little ones might even get to hear a story to pass the time!

  1. Games

Anyone up for a game of Sharks and Minnows or Hawks and Rabbits? There will be plenty of smiles and giggles during this point of their day!

  1. Good Company

While at camp, your child will make friends with animals and humans! Those who play together stay together, and we love seeing all of the youngsters playing and learning together!

  1. Arts and Crafts

From coloring to making masks, there’s a special time set in the day for your child to be free to create their own masterpiece. Your little Picasso will have plenty of art for the refrigerator!

  1. EdZOOcation

By the end of camp, our Safari Campers are animal experts! With the help of their trained camp instructors, campers learn that all life on Earth is connected by shared resources and living space, and how humans can positively impact the environment. The best part? They’ll have no idea how much they’re learning!

  1. Give Me a Break

Parents, we know you love your cutie pies and honey buns to death, but we also know you need your alone time! While you’re working, spring cleaning, or relaxing at the beach, your happy camper will be having the time of their life!
