Animeals: Recipes for the Animals
Zoo Chef Yohn Sutton doesn’t just serve the animals food, he gets creative with his own recipes that cater to each animal’s unique personality. We’ve decided to introduce an awesome new blog series entitled Animeals, in which we’ll showcase the step-by-step preparation of some of the coolest meals that our Zoo friends get to eat!
Today we have two yummy meals for our wallabies and prehensile-tailed porcupines!
Wallarito Veggie Wrap
INGREDIENTS:
• 3 large leaves of green leaf lettuce (although Romaine works best)
• 1/3 carrot
• 1/3 zucchini
• 1/2 sweet potato
• 1/3 apple
• 1-2 grapes
• 1/2 plantain or banana
DIRECTIONS:
Step 1: Lay two of the lettuce leaves out flat, slightly overlapping.
Step 2: Cut the carrot, zucchini, apple and plantain into three long strips each. Place the strips evenly onto the lettuce.
Step 3: Cut part of the sweet potato into three long, slim strips and place them onto the lettuce.
Step 4: Cut the remaining sweet potato into a thick toothpick-like shape.
Step 5: Place the third piece of lettuce in the middle and on top of the sliced ingredients.
Step 6: Starting from the outside, roll up the lettuce and ingredients.
Step 6: Using the sweet potato toothpick, poke a hole through the wrap to keep it together.
Step 7: Place the grape on the ends of the sweet potato toothpick to keep it from sliding out.
Now we have a delicious meal for a wallaby (or a person)!
