How to Zoo

Starting Monday, February 6, the Zoo will have an updated online ticketing system. The Virginia Zoo wants all guests to have the best experience when they visit the Zoo.  And that starts when you visit our website and purchase tickets online, even before you enter the Zoo.  Our new ticketing system will provide a quick and easy way to purchase tickets, a membership, or another one of the many activities offered at the Zoo.

Mobile-First Design

Timed-Ticketing reservations, event tickets, and membership renewals are easier than ever with our new mobile-friendly, intuitive design.

Member Login

Member’s logging into the new system will be easier!  Members no longer need to remember their email and password. Members will receive an email on Friday, January 20, Wednesday, February 1, and Monday, February 6 with the information you’ll need to access your account.  If you have any questions or need clarification on this, please reach out to the Membership Office at 757-441-2374 x257 to see what’s on file. 

Membership Cards and Tickets

Members will now immediately receive their membership card virtually to the email address used to purchase the membership. Show that QR code and your matching photo ID at the gate for entry. Members will have the opportunity to save their membership card in their Google or Apple wallet.

Effective February 6, 2023, The Virginia Zoo will provide a digital membership card in your confirmation email at the time of purchase. A physical card can also be mailed for a $5 Fee.

Similarly, anyone purchasing General Admission tickets, Event Tickets, or Tickets for another Zoo program will continue to be emailed with a ticket instantly at the time of purchase.

Payment Options

Online Guests will automatically be given the choice to pay with Google Pay and Apple Pay.

Onsite Guests will have the option to pay with Google Pay, Apple Pay, and any major credit card (including American Express, historically not available at the ticket booth).

Gift cards are not changing, anyone with a Virginia Zoo Gift Card will still be able to use their existing physical or digital cards.

Member Data and Existing Reservations

Memberships that have been current since 2020 will be transferred over into the new system. This means the adult member names, the number of children and your address will already be in the new system. For your protection, credit card information is not transferred.

If you’re not sure if your expired membership information is in the new system, don’t worry – we can look it up for you and create a new record if needed.
