Grant an Animal’s Wish this Holiday
This holiday season, please consider donating something special to your favorite animal.
We zookeepers like to celebrate the holidays with our animals. Spring time means pink pails and plastic eggs for the wallabies, the Fourth of July sees the elephants getting red, white, and blue ice treats, and the winter holiday season means toys! Of course, there isn’t a shiny fire truck or Elsa doll in the animals’ stockings. Instead, we provide items that encourage the animals to behave like the wild animals they are. Some of these items may be familiar to you if you own a pet; the primates love kong toys and many dog and cat puzzle feeders can be used by the birds. Zookeepers will also use more unconventional materials to make enrichment items. PVC tubes and caps, wooden dowels, and sisal rope are just a few things that can be used to make great toys.
We have created a wish list of items for the animals on Amazon.com. We hope that while you’re buying presents for the kids and animals in your life, you’ll consider adding a present for the animals to your cart.
With kind regards and wishes for joyous and peaceful holidays,
Alex Zelazo-Kessler
