Keeper Confidential | John
In celebration of National Zoo Keeper Week, here’s another opportunity to meet one of our awesome animal care staff.
Meet John.
Zoo Keeper, Herpetology (Reptile + Amphibian)
Q1. Why did you choose to become a Zoo Keeper?
A1. I wanted to put my Biological Sciences degree to use. Zookeeping seemed like a great fit since I enjoy working with and being around animals.
Q2. How long have you been a Zoo Keeper?
A2. I have been a Zoo Keeper for 24 years.
Q3. What is your favorite thing about being a Keeper?
A3. I get to care for endangered species and not many people get to do that.
Q4. Is there a particular animal at the Virginia Zoo you feel like you have a meaningful connection with?
A4. AJ & Lyn the Aldabra Tortoises. I worked with them for eight years at the Indianapolis Zoo and get to work with them again!
Q5. If you could be any animal in the world, what would you want to be and why?
A5. I would be one of my cats because they are really spoiled and get to lay around sleeping all day.
Who will we meet tomorrow? Stay tuned for our next Keeper Confidential blog and be sure to stop a Keeper and say thanks for all they do!
