Open Daily from 9:30 am – 4 pm (last admission at 3 pm), except major winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day)

Please note:

  • Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. 
  • No outside pets allowed. We welcome service animals, per the ADA guidelines. 

Admissions

Guests do not need to make advance reservations or have a timed entry EXCEPT for ZooBoo and during Spring Break in which all Zoo visitors, including members will be required to purchase tickets in advance. Tickets purchased online will be valid for the date purchased only and can be used anytime starting at 9:30 am until 3 pm when the entry gates close. Gates will remain open for Zoo Members only until 3:30 pm. The Zoo closes at 4 pm.

A non-refundable $2.05 Conservation and Technology Fee applies to each ticket. Part of this fee directly supports the Zoo’s Conservation Fund that protects wildlife and wild places locally and around the world through research, education, breeding programs and other initiatives. The Technology Fee will enable the Zoo to provide a seamless reservation and entry experience for guests and members.

Member Admission

Advance reservations and timed ticketing for everyone, including Zoo members, may be used during high traffic times or events like spring break, or the popular annual event, ZooBoo.

Please bring any valid Medicaid or qualifying insurance card with you upon arrival for each ticket purchased. If proof of discount qualification is not provided, you will be charged the cost to upgrade to a Full Price General Admission ticket.

Every individual that wishes to receive this discount must present a valid Medicaid card with their name on it (including children).

Discounts valid for General Admission Tickets purchased with a valid ID.

Free Admission

  • Children under 2
  • Virginia Zoo Members
  • Individuals with ADA-Recognized Disability and One Companion can receive free admission upon request.
    • ADA admission is only redeemable at the ticket booth and cannot be used during special events.

Group Tickets

The Zoo offers discounts for groups of 20 or more.

Parking is free and designated bus parking is available.

Refunds / Rainchecks

Most of our facilities are outside. Due to weather conditions, some animals may not be visible or on exhibit. We do not offer refunds or rainchecks.
