Virginia Zoo Announces New Way to Schedule Programs and Tours

Scheduling a field trip, educational program or behind-the-scenes tour just got easier with the Virginia Zoo’s new online scheduling platform through Explorable Places! The new online platform will ease the process of scheduling: 

• Self-guided and Virtual Field Trips 

• Wild Walks – tours cover topics including Zoo careers, animal groups, habitats and adaptations 

• Zoo Edventure and Zoo to You – programs cover topics including habitats and adaptations 

• Starry Safari Evening programs – great for Scout groups and others looking to experience the Zoo at night. 

• Unique, private Behind-the-Scenes animal tours 

The Zoo’s educational or admissions-based programs and tours give participants a memorable, fun and highly educational way to learn about animals and conservation and are great for any group – not just schools! Scouts, homeschool groups, libraries, senior centers and more can all enjoy these exciting offerings. Additionally, the Virginia Zoo offers discounts for Title 1 schools on both self-guided field trips and now educational programming. 

With the launch of the online scheduling platform today, on World Teacher Day, the Zoo is proud to now offer new discounts to make learning with the Zoo more affordable for teachers. Public and private school educators who show a valid employment ID can receive $2 off admission or $10 off any membership level.  

“The Virginia Zoo is committed to providing our Hampton Roads community with educational resources and connecting children to the natural world,” says Michelle Lewis, Virginia Zoo Curator of Education. “The Explorable Places platform will allow members of our community to more easily access our resources and book the Zoo experience that best fits their needs. We are also excited about the additional teacher and Title 1 school discounts that will help us reach more of our community.”
