First Responders to Receive Discounts at Virginia Zoo

The Virginia Zoo is celebrating First Responders Day by offering discounts on daily tickets and memberships for First Responders and their families starting Sept. 27, 2016.

“The Virginia Zoo is proud to give back those who risk their lives on a daily basis to keep our community safe,” said Greg Bockheim, Executive Director of the Virginia Zoo.

First Responders include employees of an emergency service who are likely to be among the first people to arrive at, and assist at the scene of an emergency such as an accident or natural disaster. This group typically includes police officers, firefighters, paramedics and emergency medical technicians. The discount on daily admission is $1 off regular ticket price, which is $14.95 for adults, $12.95 for seniors (age 62+) and $11.95 for children (age2-11). Family memberships will also be discounted $10 for First Responders to $89, which covers two adults plus up to 10 children.

In order to receive the discounted rates, First Responders (career or volunteer) must present a valid, government-issued photo ID that identifies them as a First Responder at the time of purchase. This membership must be purchased in person at the Zoo’s Membership Office. For more information, call the Membership Office at 757.441.2374 ext. 257.

The Zoo also offers discounts on daily admission and memberships to active duty and retired military personnel and their dependent family members with valid military ID. Norfolk college students with a valid student ID, and individuals with an ADA-recognized disability and one companion receive free Zoo admission.

The Virginia Zoo is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm, except on major winter holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. For more information, please visitwww.virginiazoo.org.
