Kunekune Pig

Description

Kunekune pigs have round bodies, short legs, and short snouts. Their coat colors come in multiple variations including black and white, brown, gold, tan, and cream. Additionally, their coat can have different textures from short, silky hair to long, course hair.

Range & Habitat

These pigs have been domesticated worldwide, but they are found in New Zealand.

At the Virginia Zoo, they can be found in our ZooFarm in the Red Barn.

Behavior

This species is very social and known to form complex social relationships with other pigs, as well as being friendly towards people.

Pigs communicate with others through vocalizations, body language, and scent marking. They also wag their tails and wiggle their ears to express their emotions.

Diet

Kunekune pigs are herbivores that graze on a wide variety of vegetation including grass, hay, grains, lettuce, and vegetables.
