Wildlife Spring Break Camp Recap

The last week of March we had our Wild About Wildlife Spring Break camp for children ages 6-11. Over the 5 days of camp we had 173 children learning about different species of animals, habitats, adaptations and conservation. This year each day revolved around a different theme.20160330_100355

Monday’s campers learned about our gentle giants-Giraffes. During one activity campers transformed into giraffes using prop items and had a relay race to see who would survive in the wild if they were a giraffe. At the end of the day they got to get up close and personal with our herd of giraffes and feed them.

Wild cats and Dogs was the theme of Tuesday. Campers played cheetah tag, got to see the lions in their night house and watched our big cats receive enrichment in the form of scented boxes.

On Wednesday explored the world of beautiful birds. Children learned all about20160330_100425

The Bear Necessities on Thursday brought the campers into the Sun Bear exhibit (minus sun bears) to look for animal signs such as prints, scratch marks, rubbings and traveled trails. Afterwards campers got to meet Palu and Suntil our resident Sun bears.

Our last day of camp was dedicated to our creepy crawlies such as snakes, insects, spiders, opossums and vultures. Campers learned all about the benefits of our less charismatic animals and why we need them. Campers got to go behind the scenes to see our education animal ambassadors in their homes. They got to meet an opossum up close and see and touch an Argentine tegu.DSC_1767

Every day after lunch campers were treated to a sneak peak of our ZooLive! stage

Our Summer Safari camps kick off on July 5th and run weekly through August 29th. We have 10 different themes from Storybook Safari to Junior Zookeepers and everything in between. Our new family camp Adventure Duos debuts this year on June 27th and runs through July 1st. Come as a family and spend the day or the week with us.

We hope to see you this summer!20160330_100549
