The Main Donates Towels

Ever wonder what happens to used hotel towels? After a towel has fulfilled its purpose and reached the end of its life, it has to end up somewhere. In this instance, the Virginia Zoo makes great use of them.

Recently, the Hilton Norfolk THE MAIN graciously donated more than 40 towels to the Zoo. Veterinary and Animal Care staff use towels for a variety of needs around the Zoo, including during veterinary procedures.

“Sometimes it’s the little things that are a huge help: in this case we needed a fairly small amount of towels here at the hospital,” said Dr. Colleen Clabbers, the Virginia Zoo’s Veterinarian. “These towels will be very useful both during animal procedures and as bedding and padding for our animal patients. We really appreciate this donation from the The Main,” Clabbers added.

Zoo visitors can see Veterinary and Animal Care staff – and perhaps some of those donated towels – hard at work at the Zoo’s Veterinary Hospital, found at the Animal Wellness Campus. The 8,000-square-foot facility is equipped with a surgery suite, lab, intensive care unit and animal quarantine and holding facilities.

“As a hotel here in Downtown Norfolk, we rely on the local attractions to be a driver for tourism,” said Kurt Krause, Managing Director for THE MAIN.  “And, the Virginia Zoo is a high-quality attraction and great partner of ours. When we found out they needed towels, it was a no-brainer to help out.”
