American Mini Pig

Description
Though commonly known as just mini pigs, other names for the American mini pig include pocket, teacup, micro, super-micro, or nano pig. In comparison to other breeds these pigs are small but adults can range in size from 50 – 100 pounds.
Range & Habitat
These pigs are wide spread throughout the United States in zoos, farms, and as pets.
At the Virginia Zoo, the American mini pigs can be found in our ZooFarm in the Red Barn.
Behavior
The American mini pig is actually the combination of around 6 different pig species including feral boards and pot-bellied pigs among others.
To stimulate the pigs mentally, emotionally, and physically they receive enrichment. This includes things such as feed spinners, scents, music, wading pools, and dirt filled tubs with food buried to mimic natural behaviors.
