Strawberry Poison Dart Frog

Description

Strawberry poison dart frogs can come in a variety of colors ranging from blue or green to red or orange and sometimes even brown or white. Their simple base color can come covered with different shape dots and/or stripes resembling a strawberry at times and giving them their name. As with other poison dart frog species, these bright colors warn any predators that the frog is poisonous and shouldn’t be eaten.

Range & Habitat

These dart frogs are native to lowland, Caribbean rainforests and plantations. They can be found throughout Central America from central Nicaragua through Costa Rica to northwestern Panama.

Behavior

The strawberry dart frog primarily lives in the leaf litter that covers the forest floor but will frequently climb vines and trees.

Diet

Strawberry poison dart frogs are insectivores. Their diet primarily consists of ants.
