Description
Western heritage mini cows are a mix between several different breeds including longhorns, dexter cattle, and zebu cows to mimic these majestic breeds in a manageable size.
Range & Habitat
These cows are wide spread throughout the United States in zoos and farms.
At the Virginia Zoo, mini cows can be found in our ZooFarm in the Green Barn.
Behavior
Cows are social animals because forming a herd reduces the risk of predation by leaving large areas of land open and reducing a predator’s ability to focus on an individual animal.
Cattle have panoramic vision meaning they can see almost 360 degrees, but are not able to tell how far away things are. This explains why a cow may be startled when suddenly approached.
Diet
Western heritage mini cows are herbivore primarily consuming grasses and hay.
Fun Facts
- Mini cows are about 1/4 the size of a typical fully grown cow, making them perfect for small farms.
