July 4 @ 9:30 am – 4:00 pm EDT

Celebrate the 4th of July at the Virginia Zoo! The Olde James River Band will be onsite playing patriotic music from 10am-12pm, and if you’re one of the first 500 guests to arrive, you’ll get a free Bomb Pop popsicle! Our splash fountains will be on for kids to play in, the African Village Restaurant and Beastro will be serving ice cold drinks and treats, and we’ll have a fun day of special activities like keeper chats, educator chats, and story time for little ones! Come see our animals enjoy some special red, white and blue enrichment to celebrate the occasion, too.

  • 11:00am Zoo Tales at Zoo Live Stage with Animal Encounter. Theme is Swamps and Pond Life
  • 11:30am Keeper Chat – Southern White Rhino at Africa Trail
  • 1:00pm Educator Chat – American Bison at Zoo Farm
  • 2:30pm Keeper Chat – Rhino Hornbill at Asia Trail
