The Zoo App Turns Two!

The Virginia Zoo is celebrating the two-year anniversary of its mobile app with a new milestone and new features to offer guests who use the app on and off Zoo grounds.

In celebration of the app’s anniversary, the Zoo is offering special perks only available through the push notification feature. Current subscribers should make sure the notifications are enabled and new users can opt into the feature upon , downloading the app. Subscribers can expect access to fun activity sheets, discounts on Zoocentric items and events, and will even be among the first to know about top Zoo news.

“The app has been a game changer for the Zoo,” says Greg Bockheim, Virginia Zoo’s Executive Director. “We have been able to achieve a big green initiative by eliminating paper maps completely. Plus, we have expanded our conservation and educational messaging to people of all ages through the technology.”

The app has more than 10,500 downloads on both iOS and Android platforms. Other features include an interactive map with animal photos and details and six different fitness walking paths, a calendar of events, ticketing and membership info and more.
