Rotary Golf Tournament Benefits the Zoo

The Virginia Zoo was the recipient of $5,700 in donations after a charity golf tournament sponsored by the Sunrise Rotary Club of Norfolk, Virginia. The tournament was held at Greenbrier Country Club in Chesapeake, Virginia.

Major sponsors of the event included Matrix Capital, USI and Long Jewelers. The tournament was an 18-hole, four-man captain’s choice format. Special contests included the longest drive contest and a hole-in-one contest where the prize was a diamond tennis bracelet.

“This is the eighth year of the Norfolk Sunrise Rotary partnering with the Virginia Zoological Society to raise important funds to support the Zoo,” comments Charlie Pfeifer, Golf Tournament Chair. “We are very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility located in Hampton Roads and we are proud to support them.  We are looking forward to the 2016 tournament on May 9.”

The Norfolk Sunrise Rotary has contributed more than $61,000 to the Virginia Zoo since the inception of the partnership. “We are so appreciative of all the dedication this club has shown in supporting the Virginia Zoo and its projects.  We look forward to the annual golf tournament each year,” comments Greg Bockheim, Executive Director of the Virginia Zoo.
