Rollin’ & Bowlin’ For Rhinos

Since 1990, members of the American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) have raised over $4 million for conservation with an annual fundraiser called Bowling for Rhinos (BFR). Local chapters organize events all over the country and collect more than $400k each year, 100% of which is donated directly to rhino conservation.

Comprised of zookeepers and aquarists from the Virginia Zoo, the Virginia Aquarium, and the Virginia Living Museum, the Tidewater AAZK was formed in 2014. This will be their first year participating in BFR and they’ve planned what promises to be an exciting, fun, and successful event – Rollin’ & Bowlin’ For Rhinos.

Rollin’ & Bowlin’ For Rhinos will take place on Saturday, August 22 from 8pm-11pm at the Haygood Rollerskating Center in Virginia Beach. There will be a silent auction with items like carved emu and ostrich eggs, hand-made jewelry, paintings created by Sumatran and Javan rhinos, elephants, seals, and other animals, gift baskets, and much more! Enter a raffle to win a special behind-the-scenes experience with the Zoo’s white rhino Alfred and of course enjoy a fun night of bowling and rollerskating.

Proceeds from this event will go directly to support conservation efforts to save all five endangered rhino species in their native habitats of Kenya, Indonesia, and India. The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, The International Rhino Foundation, and Action for Cheetahs in Kenya will all benefit from funds raised during Bowling for Rhinos, so by participating in this event you are helping animals all around the world!
