Spring is almost here! Let’s explore the best nature has to offer as the weather warms. We’ll look at muddy footprints, make a nature stew, and test our noses with nice scents. Come explore and play with us!
Be sure to also join us on Thursday, March 19th for our first-ever Nature Day, where we will celebrate the official first day of spring, the Spring Equinox! We’ll have even more nature activities and play stations for you to enjoy.
Play at your own risk! As the weather warms up, we will be providing more activities that include MUD, WATER, and other MESSY parts of nature. Please dress appropriately.
Held on select Wednesdays and Sundays, Running Wild is a nature play program at the Virginia Zoo. With the goal of exploring the outdoors and getting a little dirty, unstructured play in natural spaces has been shown to improve physical health, support mental and emotional wellbeing, and promote life-long conservation values.
Each month of Running Wild will have a new theme and different activities, which may include free exploration time, crafts, touch tables, and more! The program has no age limit but is recommended for children under the age of 12 and their families.
