TODAY is Giving Tuesday, or Giving ZooDay, as we like to call it in the animal kingdom. 😉

This Giving ZooDay, the Virginia Zoo is asking for your support in raising $5,000! Every dollar given today will go towards the Zoo’s Keeper Fund, which provides enrichment for our animals and educational opportunities for their keepers!

Team Feathers

Help Team Feathers soar to new heights! Donating to your favorite feathered friends this Giving ZooDay could provide the Zoo’s Bird Keepers with advanced networking opportunities to learn from other avian experts around the country. Sometimes our birds, like the tawny frogmouths, struggle to be first-time parents and our keepers need to intervene. Meeting with other professionals can help our team learn the best way to hand-raise chicks, like Inala, or help parents along in the learning process!

Team Fur

Earn your stripes by donating to Team Fur! Giving a gift, no matter how big or small today to Team Fur will help provide additional enrichment for the mammals who call the Zoo home. Our lions, for example, love to play with bobbins and boomer balls. These durable, but not indestructible, toys can cost upwards of $150 per toy for a few minutes of fun! Zebus and other ZooFarm friends, on the other hand, like to rub up against livestock brushes to scratch those itches they just can’t reach.

Team Scales

Will Team Scales slither their way to victory? When you support our reptilian rascals this Giving ZooDay, you are providing educational opportunities for our keepers, such as the chance to go to a week-long Crocodile School in St. Augustine. A class like this will give our keepers the opportunity to learn from croc experts, gain invaluable tools, and advance their knowledge to better care for our animals.

Donors of each team will receive Zoo-pendous prizes based on their contributions to the fundraising campaign:

• $25 donors will receive a small Virginia Zoo sticker
• $50 donors will receive a large Virginia Zoo sticker
• $100 donors will receive a Virginia Zoo hat
• $250 donors will receive our best-selling Virginia Zoo hat
