Close Encounters at the Zoo

If you would like an engaging up-close experience for your students but will be visiting the Zoo on a restricted schedule, ask about a 30 minute program in which applicable science themes will be integrated into exciting and interactive live animal presentations.

Select from these themes:

  • Hatching, birth and parental care
  • Diverse habitats
  • Animals through the seasons
  • Physical adaptations and behavior
  • Interactions in communities
  • What makes a mammal (etc.) a mammal (etc.)?

Registration for a Close Encounter will include admission to the Zoo for the day for 30 students and 3 chaperones. Cost is $250 per Close Encounter.

Schedule: Close Encounters can be arranged for most days (excluding major holidays) but are most commonly conducted Monday through Friday.

Time: Close Encounters can be scheduled to start from 10:00 to 3:00 pm

Registration: Close Encounter Registration Form. Pre-registration through the Education Department is required. For information e-mail us at or call (757) 441-2374, ext. 229.
