International Primate Day
- This event has passed.
International Primate Day is September 1, but the Zoo will be celebrating its 10 primates on August 26. This day is dedicated to preserving and protecting primates of all species including chimpanzees, monkeys, orangutans, gorillas and many more.
Animal Defenders International (ADI) founded Primate Day in 2005 with a specific focus on putting an end to experimenting on monkeys for disease research. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than a third of primates are considered critically endangered or threatened species.
Join the Virginia Zoo to raise awareness and celebrate our primates from 11 am to 2 pm. There will be discovery stations, primate-themed crafts, fun activities and trail hosts throughout Asia – Trail of the Tiger. Learn what you can do to help their counterparts in the wild.
Free with regular admission!
