Honor Our Scaly, Feathered and Furry Friends.

In 1892, the City of Norfolk purchased the 65 acres that were currently occupied by Lafayette Park. In 1900, the park began acquiring animals to exhibit, and by 1901 its collection exceeded 200 animals, in- cluding mammals, birds and reptiles. Since then, the Virginia Zoo has been a pillar of education and recre- ation in the Hampton Roads Community. The Virginia Zoo and our community partners will celebrate the magnitude of 115 years throughout 2016.
