The Virginia Zoo
Bring learning to life as you encounter everything from towering Masai giraffes to tiny poison dart frogs. The Virginia Zoo is home to more than 500 furry, feathered and scaly animal friends. Explore the Africa Savannah and the tropical jungles of Asia. Don’t forget to stop by our newly renovated World of Reptiles!
The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk has partnered with the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV) to offer homeschoolers and their families discounted admission on April 1, 2019. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the event at the ticket booth.
You will need to show a letter of intent to receive the following discounted prices:
- Adults (18 and up): $8
- Student (Ages 12 and up): $12
- Child (Ages 2 to 11): $10
- Infant (Under 2 years old): Free
For more hands on learning, we invite you and your family to participate in our FREE activity stations from 11am to 2pm.

Join our zoo educators and animal ambassadors for a 30 minute classroom presentation:
Join us as we travel around the globe on an animal adventure. While on this imaginative journey, participants will meet several animals from different continents and diverse habitats. By the end of our trip, students will have a greater understanding of how animals are adapted for their environments.
Creepy Crawlies at 11:30 am
Join us as we introduce you to some of our favorite creepy, crawly animal friends. From reptiles to invertebrates, we will explore the many ways that these animals grow and move throughout their lives. By the end of this program, participants will have a greater understanding of the role that an animal’s life cycles has on the way it moves through its environment.
Amazing Adaptations at 1:30 pm
Discover the amazing adaptations that can be found within the animal kingdom. Participants will discover the unique physical and behavioral traits that help us categorize animals into different groups. By the end of this program, students will have a greater understanding of the differences between reptiles, amphibians, mammals, and birds.
Participants and their parents must purchase a ticket to attend the classroom programs. This program fee does not include your ticket into the zoo.
