SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Our school programs provide a hands-on opportunity for students in all grade levels to learn about animals and conservation. Each program includes interactive science lessons aligned to Virginia’s Standards of Learning. Zoo school programs also fit curriculum requirements in North Carolina and private schools. Programs are offered at the Zoo or in your classroom.

Early Childhood Programs

Pre-school programs bring together animals and crucial early childhood learning topics such as movement, math and learning! More than just an engaging live animal encounter, these programs are aligned with Virginia’s Foundation Blocks for Early Learning! These programs are perfect for daycare centers and preschools. Choose from one of our interdisciplinary topics HERE.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $150.00 for up to 25 students and three chaperones with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 30 minutes, includes animal encounter

Elementary School Programs

Elementary school programs bring together animals and learning topics such as geography and science! More than just an engaging live animal encounter, these programs are aligned with Virginia’s and North Carolina’s Standards of Learning (SOLs)! Choose from one of our interdisciplinary topics HERE.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $300.00 for up to 30 students and three chaperones, with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 45 minutes, includes animal encounter

Middle and High School Programs

Middle and High school programs bring together animals and learning topics such as food webs, ethology and citizen science! More than just an engaging live animal encounter, these programs are aligned with Virginia’s and North Carolina’s Standards of Learning (SOLs)! Choose from one of our interdisciplinary topics HERE.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $300.00 for up to 30 students and three chaperones with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 45 minutes, includes animal encounter

Close Encounters

These 30 minute programs are perfect for libraries, summer camps, or school groups with limited time. During this program, participants will meet two different animal ambassadors and see various bio-facts. These programs can be scheduled for any grade level and can be adjusted to best fit your group’s needs. Programs offered at the zoo or in your classroom are available HERE.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $250.00 for up to 30 students and three chaperones, with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 30 minutes, includes animal encounter

Zoo Labs

Students will strengthen their understanding of animals and conservation, through our new STEM lab programs. To allow students enough time to collect, record, and interpret data these hands on programs do not include an animal encounter. Programs offered at the zoo and in your classroom are available HERE.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $150.00 for up to 30 students and three chaperones, with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 45 minutes, does not include animal encounter

Auditorium Programs – Coming Spring 2019!

Bring the whole school together and experience our new auditorium style programs! Up to 200 participants will get to meet animal ambassadors in a presentation appropriate for your large group! This new program will keep participants engaged and excited while reinforcing SOLs! These PROGRAMS are only offered at your school.

Cost and Length of programs vary depending on age group. Program does include animal encounter.

Adult and Senior Programs

Join the Virginia Zoo as we take you on a journey around the world to discover exotic destinations and animals. Through an interactive presentation, biofact investigations, and animal encounters, adults can travel the globe without even leaving their chair! These programs are perfect for retirement centers, nursing homes, and other organizations.

Reservations: Reservations are required at least four (4) weeks prior to the date of visit.

Cost: $300.00 for up to 35 participants with additional travel fee.

Length of Program: 45 to 60 minutes

Staff-Guided Tours

Join our educators and explore the Zoo like never before. Each guided tour lasts for one hour and is aligned with curriculum standards. Tours can also be adjusted to best fit your learning objectives. Our tours are available for every grade level.
